Yesterday at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics announced officially the release of a new smartphone running under Google's Android operating system, the Samsung GALAXY S II (Model: GT-I9100).
The new device sports a thin design (8.49mm), complemented by a large touchscreen display, a powerful dual core application processor inside, and a responsive 3D user interface.
Just as suggested before, the Samsung GALAXY S II arrives on shelves with Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system on board, as well as with access to Samsung's four new content and entertainment hubs, for those fond of music, games, e-reading and social networking services.
“In 2011, we will take Samsung's leadership in Speed, Screen and Content to a whole new level,” said JK Shin, president and head of Samsung's Mobile Communications Business.
“With the GALAXY S II, Samsung wants to set the new standard of quality viewing on mobile, powerful performance, and slim and modern design.”
“GALAXY S II is a natural and powerful evolution of GALAXY S. Building on the phenomenal success of the original Samsung GALAXY S, we are proud to unveil the ultimate smartphone. Consumers no longer have to contain themselves – the Samsung GALAXY S II allows them to design their own smart lives.”
The specifications list of the new smartphone includes HSPA+ connectivity, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n 802.11, Bluetooth, AllShare, NFC (Near Field Communication), GPS, along with great performance capabilities courtesy of its dual-core 1GHz Samsung chip and 1GB of RAM.
The new mobile phone also includes a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen display that can deliver an 800 x 480 pixels resolution, along with an 8-megapixel photo snapper with built-in LED flash and 1080p full HD recording and playback, and a 2MP front-facing camera for video calling.
“We're pleased to see Samsung bring another Android-powered device to market to help grow the Android ecosystem,” said Andy Rubin, vice president of Engineering at Google.
