Android 2.2 Arriving on Galaxy S via UK Carriers

The long awaited Android 2.2 mobile operating system update for the Samsung Galaxy S smartphone is reportedly arriving on carrier branded devices in the UK too, after being released for unbranded handsets not too long ago.

According to some lucky users, Galaxy S owners on Vodafone's network can already taste the solution, available for download via the Kies Software (available on Softpedia too, via this link).

Starting with yesterday, the software solution started to be pushed to Galaxy S users on the carrier's network, and it appears that all of them should get the update in the near future.

According to one user, Vodafone sent out the following SMS message to announce the availability of this solution: “Your Galaxy S Froyo software update is ready.”

There are a lot of enhancements that Galaxy S users would enjoy with the new Android 2.2 software update, including support for Adobe's Flash Player 10.1, or a nice range of performance enhancements when compared to the previously available Android 2.1 OS for Galaxy S.

As stated above, while unbranded devices already tasted the solution, it took a little longer for it to be released to various carrier-branded models available in the country.

Vodafone users already started to receive the solution, and it appears that O2 customers should also receive it later today, at least this is what the wireless carrier announced via Twitter.

The company responded to many tweets asking about the update with the same phrase: “it's coming out later today. Keep watching and you'll find it'll be available for you,” which means that things might actually turn out this way in the end.

However, nothing is certain until the actual software arrives on devices, especially since the update was initially expected to arrive before the end of September, and got delayed with about two months.

Hopefully, O2's Galaxy S users will have the chance to install Froyo on their devices today. It still remains to be seen when the other carriers in the country plan on making the software available for their devices.
