It seems that the popular SSD controllers developed by SandForce have one again been found useful, this time as part of the latest solid state drive developed by Micro Center.
While SandForce did recently release the SF-2000 series of controllers, the SF-1200 are still going strong.
This is mostly because the 2000 line is, so far, restricted to the enterprise market, while the other has members for consumer-oriented drives as well.
The new SSD that Micro Center just announced through a press release has a capacity of 64 GB and boasts the SandForce DuraClass technology.
Basically, this feature provides PC SSDs with a level of functionality and reliability on par with that of enterprise-grade drives.
The newcomer uses the 2.5-inch form factor and communicates via the SATA II interface, at speed of up to 250MB/s when writing.
"We're excited to offer Micro Center customers our second generation, high performance solid state drive with the top-rated controller in the industry—the SandForce SF-1200 Processor," said Ed Mershad, Micro Center Vice President and International Products Sourcing Manager.
"We think the combination of great Micro Center support and service, award winning SandForce technology, and an introductory $99.99 price will open the door to mass-market adoption of SSDs in client PC and laptop applications," he added.
"We know that many consumers want the face-to-face support and advice only available in a traditional retail establishment and we are happy to add Micro Center to our SandForce Driven family as the first in this category," said Kent Smith, Senior Director of Product Marketing for SandForce.
"The new Micro Center drive with our SandForce SSD Processor is a great addition to their overall product offering and is a premier channel through which end users can purchase our products."
The solid state drive comes with DuraWrite, a technology that extends the unit's lifespan, as well as RAISE, which gives a single drive RAID-level security and low power draw.
